About the Temple

This Hindu Temple located in greater Chicago is a Registered non-profit corporation, established in 1977 to establish and maintain Hinduism.

The temple was consecrated with the sole purpose of promoting Hindu Dharma and Culture.

The temple is pursuing actively to perceive Indian traditions, cultures, and religious activities in the US.

There are two main temples, Sri Rama, and Ganesh – Shiva – Durga temples, Sri Vivekananda Ji Statue, and a spiritual center that provides a supplementary source of wisdom and Mystical experience.

The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago (HTGC) is a temple complex in Lemont, Illinois.

A famous “Vivekananda Hill” beholds a 10-foot bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda, on the temple campus.

The model represents Sri Vivekananda Ji’s photograph in Chicago after his appearance at the World ‘s Parliament of Religions in 1893.

The Statue is one of the kinds of Indian Philosophers in history, installed in a public place in the USA.

Temple Deities

There are 2 separate complexes in the temples:

  1. Sri Rama Temple: It includes Rama Parivar, Lord Ganesha, Jai Hanuman Ji, Lord Balaji, Mata Mahalakshmi, Sri Krishna, and Radha.
  2. Ganesha-Shiva-Durga Temple includes Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Durga Devi, Parvati, Nataraja (God of Dance) Ayyappa Swamy, and Navagraha.

Festivals Celebrated

The temple has a huge collection of shrines worshiped and adored during Hindu festivals.

Hindu Festivals like Sri Rama Navami, Krishna Janmashtami, Durga Pooja, Bhogi, Lohri, Dusshera, Ganesha Chaturthi, Hanuman Jayanthi, Maha Shivarathri, and so on are celebrated.

Monthly Pooja Sevas

Several monthly occurring rituals like Ekadashi, sankashtahara Ganapati pooja, Hunnime (full moon), Vasantha Panchami, pradosham and so on are exquisitely organized.

Health Screening Program

The HTGC humanitarian committee takes up monthly free health check-up campaigns on:

  • Height/Weight & BMI measurements
  • Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure Levels
  • Physician Referrals 
  • No medications or tablets will be administered in the camp

On the First Sunday of the month from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm, in the temple premises.

HTGC Yoga Classes

Held three times a week for adults

Saturday 9 am to 10:30 am
Monday 6:30 pm to 8 pm
Wednesday 6:30 pm to 8 pm

HTGC yoga center offers kids yoga through Vidyalaya every alternate Sunday between 9 am to 10 am

Temple Rules/Dress code

  • Casual and descent attire on temple premises
  • Compulsory mask as a Covid 19 precaution. 

Other Activities

The Swami Vivekananda Spiritual Centre is an epicenter for the RITU meditation center, many spiritual activities like meditation, Yoga Classes, and Spiritual Tutoring classes are conducted.

Fun Activities and recreational Programs like spiritual songs, Kirtan and Bhajans, Story narration, etc take place for seniors.
