About The Temple
Endurance of our Hindu culture, traditions, customs, and rituals attracts devotees from all parts of the world to the auspicious Sri Lakshmi Narayan temple in Brisbane.
To lay a strong foundation to preserve Hindu traditions in Australia, a committee called Hindu Religion and Mandir Association (HRMA), officially agreed to constitute in August 1984.
Search for the temple site began in 1990 and with a contribution of 7 devotee families, a deposit of $32,000 was collected and the land was procured.
The temple was constructed in the year 1998, and after the installation of several deities, the temple came into operation in April 2004.
Deity and its spiritual significance
Sri Lakshmi Narayana is the temple’s main deity, a dual representation of lord Vishnu and Lakshmi.
The Goddess of prosperity and beauty, Sri Maha Lakshmi is depicted as standing next to Vishnu.
It is alleged that offering prayers to Laxminarayan bring health, victory, fortune, and fulfillment to devotees and their families.
Lord Narayana is referred to as Laxmi-Narayana to emphasize, Mata Lakshmi is the Shakti of Lord Vishnu (also known by Rama, Narasimha, Narayana, Kalki, and so on)
Mata Saraswathi, Siva, Ganesha, and Navagraha are also present on the temple premises
Festivals Celebrated/Most important Activities
- Most Hindu festivals like Krishna Janmashtami, Shravan Poornima, Raksha Bandhan, Vijayadashami, Makar-Sankranti, Karva Chauth, etc are celebrated in the temple
- Ekadashi is celebrated every month.
- Special Sunday Bhandara program includes:
- Satsangh program once a week for devotees
- Singing of Bhajans and kirtans
- Discourse by resident Pandit
- Bhog Offerings and Aarti in the evening
- Thanksgiving

- Devotees are expected to strictly avoid smoking and alcohol.
- Mobile phones switched off or kept in silent mode.
- Devotees need to visit the temple wearing Indian attire.
