Arulmigu Ramanatha Swamy temple in Rameshwaram is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the Jyotirlinga Temples.
Rameshwaram Temple has the longest corridor among the temples around the world.
Rameswaram is a small Island town in Ramanathapuram District, Tamilnadu state of India.
Legend has that Rameswaram is the last stop of Rama before he was to reach Lanka to fight the battle against Ravana to bring back Sita Devi.
History of The Temple
According to a legend the Shiva Linga is made up of sand by Rama to worship Lord Shiva. One more legend was, Sita made Shiva Linga and installed by Sri Rama while coming back to Ayodhya from Lanka in order to seek blessings of Lord Shiva.
It is believed that the Shiva Linga is worshipped by Rama, Sita, Lakshmana & Hanuman.

Pilgrims enter through the eastern entrance of the temple gopuram, Pilgrims offer prayers to Lord Hanuman at the entrance. Then enter to the Nandi mandapa, a huge image of the bull. Nandi is made up of limestone, measuring 17.5 feet in height,23 feet in length and 12 feet in wide.
You can find sculptures of ocean gods Mahodati and Ratnakara. At the entrance of Garbha Gruha (Main temple), you can find Vinayaka and Subrahmanya.
Inside garbha gruha, Parvathavardhini(Parvathi Devi) is enshrined to the right side of Ramanatha Swamy. To the north side of Ramanatha Swamy, Vishwanatha Linga is there. It is believed that the Vishwanatha Linga is brought from Kailas by Lord Hanuman. As per temple tradition, pujas are first performed to Vishwanatha Linga and then only to Ramanatha Swamy. With Lord Vishwanatha, Visalakshi – consort of Vishwanatha is also enshrined in the temple.
In the northeastern side of the corridor, there is a place called Sayanagruha (Palliyarai). Here the Oonjal or Sayana Seva is performed to the Lord.
Inside the corridor, there is a Spatika Linga, which is believed that it is installed by Vibhishana.
