This temple was built in the 12th century and dedicated to one of the most powerful Goddess Kanakadurga.

The temple is in the Pedda Gutta Soramgam, also known as Garuda Ganga.

The specialty of this temple is that its picturesque shrine is located amongst a lush green forest and natural stone formation inside a den.

The place where the temple is located celebrates the convergences of seven streams into the Manjeera River.

Hence the temple is named Edupayala, in Telugu, Edu signifies Seven and Payalu means Streams.

According to Hindu Mythology, the grandson of the great warrior Arjun, Maharaj Parikshit performed “Sarpa Yagya” to free himself from a curse.

Garuda (eagle) was bringing the snakes that were used in Yagna, the blood from the snakes were said to be fallen at seven different locations.

These 7 locations were given the names of ancient saints: Jamadagni, Kasyapa, Viswamitra, Vasistha, Atri, Bharadwaja, and Gowthama. 

Edupayala is where all seven rivers meet, and in the middle of it is the idol of the Goddess.

The places where blood stains from snakes were fallen became streams.

It is also believed that during a recent reconstruction of a near bridge, a coat of ash was found below the Manjeera riverbed.

A specialty of this temple is the sight during the rainy season the river water flows at great heights and reaches the foot of the Goddess and thousands of devotee’s flocks in to get this auspicious view.

Goddess Kanakadurga is the temple’s main deity.

This temple attracts over 30 lakhs of devotees every year from all over Telangana and the nearby states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and so on.

The temple celebrates Jatara (religious fair) during Shivarathri in the month of February for three long days.

This fair begins on the day of Sivarathri and is continued till the completion of Bandi Utsavam where hundreds of adorned bullock carts from 32 villages go around the temple.

This fair concludes with a grand celebration of the Rathothsavam ceremony attracting nearly 5 lakhs of pilgrims.
