1. Sankalpa and Ganapati Puja: A statement of intent, followed by prayers to Lord Ganesha first, so the ceremony goes smoothly — the standard start for any homam.
2. Invocation of Chandi: The priest formally invites Goddess Chandi into the ceremony.
3. Devi Mahatmyam chanting: The text is chanted in full or in part, depending on the scale of the homam, ranging from a single chapter to all thirteen.
4. Offerings into the fire: Ghee, red hibiscus flowers, and sacred herbs are offered into the fire throughout the chanting.
5. Purnahuti: The final and most important offering, which completes the homam.
6. Aarti and Prasad: The ceremony ends with Aarti and Prasad given to devotees.
