Ganesha Temple Brisbane History
In the year 1983, local Hindu devotees urged for collaborative worship, initially gathered at homes for prayers and later they used to do prayers in SWARA Hall at Spring Hill.
A committee called, “Hindu Ahlaya Sangam” was formed on 25th April 1986 by the devotees and collected adequate funds to purchase land for temple construction which finally took off in 1990.
The sacred land of 4.5 acres was purchased in Virgin bushland at South Maclean.
Later building plan was approved in 1992, the temple foundation was laid in 1993, and on 5th Feb 1995, a divine temple opening ceremony was organized.
The temple stands at natural scenic beauty, near the Logan River in South Maclean in typical south Indian architecture, it has a Gopuram well-crafted with ornamental icons that are centrally located with the Vinayakar (Lord Ganesha) deity about 20m above the ground level.
Maha Kumbabishekam took place on 1st May 2015 after renovation of the temple in the same place.
