About the Temple

In 1987, a small group of Hindu community people gathered to celebrate Diwali and felt the need to have a temple on the west side of Metropolitan Detroit.

An ad-hoc committee was established, the temple site was finalized and Bhumi pooja was performed in the spring of 1987.

The construction of phase 1 including the main temple, kitchen/bathroom, and a hallway with a basement was done in 1988.

The temple opening was held on December 25, 1990, with the installation of deities.

On May 15, 1993, Murti Pratistha was performed with three days of grand celebration, which was blessed by the dignitary of the late Shri Sat Guru Sant Keshavdasji.

Additional land (for parking space and halls) was procured, and Bhumi puja was held on 22 June 1997.

The Hindu Temple started a scholarship program for Plymouth Canton High School graduates.

In the year 2010, the temple began growing with a huge number of devotees and a new temple was established with ample space and facilities.
