Full moon days in Hindu calendar are known as Purnima or Pournami. Pournami that falls in the month of Shravanam is called as Sravana Purnima or Sravana Pournami or Sawan Purnima.

South Indian people called it as Pournami, whereas North Indians called it as Purnima.

Apart from festivals, Pournami is a very important and auspicious day in Hindu calendar.

The whole Sravana month is considered as very auspicious.

Sravana Pournami is also called as Maha Sravanam. Raksha Bandhan(Rakhi Pournami) is celebrated on this day.

The day is also celebrated as Hayagriva Jayanthi. On this day Narali Purnima or Nariyal Purnima is observed in Maharashtra.

In Gujarat, the day is known as Akshar Purnima. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand people calls it as Kajri Purnima or Kajari Purnima.
