Akshaya Tritiya is a highly auspicious and holy day for Hindus. In some parts of India, it is called as Akti or Akha Teej. As per Hindu calendar, it falls on Vaishakha month, Shukla Paksha Tritiya (Third day during bright half of Vaisakha month).

Akshaya Tritiya is the day of the birth of Lord Parashurama who is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Akshaya is a Sanskrit word, which means never diminishing and the day is believed to bring good luck and success.

Significance

According to beliefs, on Akshaya Tritiya day Veda Vyasa Maharshi started to write Mahabharata.

It is believed that on this day Satya Yuga got over and Tretha Yuga got started.

A couple of legends is associated with Akshaya Tritiya, one of the legends is, on this day Lord Krishna the incarnation of Lord Vishnu gifted Akshaya Patra (The food bowl, that would never go empty) to Pandavas.

Akshaya Tritiya is believed as never diminishing and it is also believed that starting a new business, purchasing lands and purchasing new vehicles and gold on this day brings prosperity, success and wealth in future. Most of the people purchases gold in form of jewelry or coins on this day.

Observances on Akshaya Tritiya

On this day Sri Maha Vishnu along with his concert Lakshmi Devi (Called as Lakshminarayana) is worshipped with flowers and fruits.

Some devotees also perform Gaja Puja, Gou Puja and Ashwa Puja.

Gaja puja for wealth and prosperity, gou puja for love and kindness & ashwa puja is for energy.
